ACCESSORY MOUNTING GUIDELINES

The wheelchair is used as a standard of accessibility, because wherever a wheelchair can go, so can a person using a walker, a cane, or crutches. For the convenience of the physically handicapped, washroom accessories should be mounted so that operating areas such as coin slots, push buttons, openings for towels, cups, and waste are no more than 40" above the floor. For the safety of the blind, objects below 6' 6" which protrude more than 4" must continue to the floor or to within 8" of the floor so that they may be detected by a person using a can or a seeing eye dog.

RENOVATION WORK

We have gone through the Federal Register and put together the highlights of the ADA as they relate to our industry. We suggest that you structure all of your future orders and layouts with this information in mind. In alterations where the standard stall is technically infeasible or where local plumbing codes prohibit reduction in the number of fixtures, then the 36" or 48" stalls are permitted. The door, however, must swing out. Grab bars complying with the length and positioning shown shall be provided.
